Quick answer
The same China eSIM works in Guangzhou and Shenzhen. It uses China Mobile. Install it before you fly into Guangzhou Baiyun (CAN), turn on Data Roaming when you land, and keep the line for the rest of the trip. Coverage depends on where you are.
Do I need a separate plan for Shenzhen?
No. One plan covers both cities, and the rest of mainland China, wherever China Mobile has signal. Buy enough days for the whole trip. If you fly into Shenzhen’s own airport rather than CAN, install the same way on Wi-Fi before the flight. This site’s airport guide for the region is Baiyun (CAN) only.
What will I use data for?
Moving between the two cities is when data matters: ride apps, maps, and messages about where to meet.
- Didi in both cities. This guide does not quote fares.
- Google Maps, with an offline map saved before you go.
- WhatsApp messages, and WhatsApp calls over data.
- YouTube or Facebook only if your plan has room. Video uses data quickly.
Which plan suits both cities?
A short hop fits 3 days · 1 GB/day or 5 days · 3 GB. A week on the move fits 7 days · 5 GB for light use, or 10 days · 10 GB if you want a larger pool. Each day ends at 11:59 PM China time, so add a day. There are no top-ups.
Frequently asked questions
Is there signal in every district?
+
Do not count on that. The eSIM uses China Mobile, and coverage depends on where you are. Save offline maps and your hotel address before you head out.
Does Didi work in both cities?
+
Didi is the usual ride-hailing app in both. Use the China line for mobile data, with Data Roaming on. This guide does not quote fares.
Do I need a new eSIM when I change cities?
+
No. One China eSIM is for mainland China. You only need a new plan when the current one runs out of days or data.
